Robotic-assisted options now at Santa Fe Medical Center

October 3, 2022FeaturedPress Release

Presbyterian Santa Fe Medical Center now offers robotic surgery options for total knee replacement surgeries.

Santa Fe Medical Center is the first site in Santa Fe to offer this type of robot-assisted system. The technology, called ROSA Robotics, is developed by Indiana-based Zimmer Biomet. Learn more in the Santa Fe New Mexican.

The ROSA device collects data before and during surgery that helps provide additional details about a patient’s anatomy for the surgeon. Studies show robotic-assisted knee and hip replacements can improve accuracy and reduce injury to nearby soft tissues during surgery.

Presbyterian Medical Group orthopedic surgeon Dr. Peter Bergquist, as well as orthopedic surgeons with Nexus Health, are now using the technology.

"It improves accuracy during surgeries, which means patients can expect a shorter recovery time for one of the most common orthopedic surgeries," said Dr. John Garcia, orthopedic surgeon with Nexus Health. "This technology is a great addition to what we can offer our patients in Santa Fe."
