Presbyterian was recently named an “LGBTQ Health Care Equality Top Performer” by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC) for its commitment to inclusive care for LGBTQ patients.
The designation was awarded in the 13th edition of HRC’s Healthcare Equality Index (HEI), which included 193 organizations that earned the Top Performer designation. Health care organizations were ranked in the following areas:
- Non-Discrimination & Staff Training
- Patient Services & Support
- Employee Benefits & Policies
- Patient & Community Engagement
- Responsible Citizenship
“We are honored to participate in the HRC’s Healthcare Equality Index, and to be named a Top Performer,” said Michele Reeves, vice president and chief diversity and inclusion officer. “It is encouraging to see the country move towards recognizing and reconciling both the racial disparities that exist in healthcare and the disparities that the LGBTQ community faces. At Presbyterian, achieving equitable health outcomes is our priority. We must continue to ensure that everywhere we deliver care, all patients are treated with empathy, dignity and respect.”
The HRC noted significant progress among participants in the 2020 HEI index in areas such as offering staff training in LGBTQ patient-centered care and using inclusive language in patient and employment non-discrimination policies.
